The Swicks in America
Halbert's
CONTENTS:
If you are a Swick, you may have received a letter in the mail from a 'David W. Swick' in Bath, Ohio, describing a book called, "The Swicks since 1753". The letter also notes that the following information is included:
I first purchased this book, hoping to find a wealth of information about the history of the Swicks. I did not find that when I received the book, and at first was a little unhappy with my purchase -- the history part of the book is generic, and is really a high-level American history that would apply to research on almost any surname. Also, a strange thing -- the latter part of the book was a duplicate of the first part of the book (for Swick), but was for the surname 'Tackett'. The only part of the book I found interesting was the Swick address listing by state, but then I thought, I could also find this information by doing a name search in Yahoo.

After I recently got interested in genealogy, I picked up the book and looked a little deeper. The book contains a wealth of information for the beginning genealogist. Sample forms are included and pages upon pages of addresses on where to obtain specific genealogical information. The book also has an entire chapter dedicated to the Federal Census -- it is very informative on the census history, includes a listing of the "S200" Soundex names, and also includes a sample listing of census records and graphs. I note the list as 'sample', since I was not able to find listings for certain states/years I had already found in census indexes. The last part of the book includes a list of all of the Swicks by state (as mentioned above).

Altogether, the book is very good for the person who is interested in genealogy, and is excellent for a beginning Swick genealogist. You could also fill-in the sample tree forms included in the book, and pass it on as a family heirloom (such as a family bible) -- it would make a great gift. I believe the book is available in both paperback and leather editions.

Web Sites

The geographic web sites may not have Swick-specific information. Since Swicks have resided in these locations at one time or another, the sites are included to aid in research (finding genealogical addresses, posting queries, and so forth). Most of the sites are part of the US GenWeb project. The Swick Tree web sites are personal trees found to contain a Swick or two within them, as well as researchers who may not have a web page advertising their lineage.
